Prague is sometimes called a city-book with many mysterious pages, and of course, the first chapter of this folio is Prague Castle. The ancient fortress, which changes its appearance over time, has been standing on a long cliff on the left bank of the Vltava River for over a thousand years. Prague Castle is not only the heart of the Czech Republic, the residence of princes, kings, bishops, emperors and presidents, but also a unique archaeological monument that has not been fully explored, which can seem strange. The Prague Castle complex is huge, with an area of 753,474 square meters. This makes it the largest ancient castle in the world, according to the Guinness Book of Records. The complex includes streets, gardens, palaces, chapels and the largest and most famous church in the Czech Republic, St. Vitus Cathedral.

Its construction lasted almost 600 years. The full name of this incredibly beautiful Gothic building is the Cathedral of St. Vitus, Wenceslas and Vojtek. It is also surrounded by legends. One legend tells of hounds from the underworld. Hellhounds were first noticed in the Middle Ages. They were described as ghosts of black dogs with bloodshot eyes, with red-hot chains hanging from their necks. They were said to be guarding the treasure. Many seekers have tried to get the treasure guarded by black ghosts, but no one has succeeded yet. However, everyone can try as once a year a passage opens among the streets of Prague Castle. Only a pure-hearted person who must go forward and never look back can enter it.

The Charles Bridge, Prague's most popular and famous landmark, has an amazing story-legend of its construction: it is said that in order to be able to build this beautiful bridge, the architect had to make a deal with the devil. Another popular legend says that Charles Bridge was made so strong because eggs, wine and milk were added to the mortar that joined the stones together. These products were scarce in Prague, so they were gathered from all over the Czech kingdom. Out of all the 30 sculptures on the Charles Bridge, only the statue of St. John of Nepomuk is made of bronze and the statue of St. Philip Benitius is made of marble. The rest of the sculptures were created from stone. The statue of St. John of Nepomuk has been on the bridge the longest. It was installed in 1683 and is located between the 9th and 10th pillars. According to legend, Jan was thrown off the bridge because he refused to reveal the secret of his wife's confession against the will of King Wenceslas IV. At the place where the saint was thrown down, a plaque with a metal cross and five stars was erected. It can be seen on the right side of the bridge at the 8th pillar on the railing. One of the beliefs says that if you touch any sculpture on the Charles Bridge and make a wish, it will come true. If lovers make a wish and kiss on the bridge, it will also come true.
